Joannes Toth (1931)

Rent: €75 per month (incl. bow and case)
Deposit: €200,-

Maker:

Joannes Toth

This builder is also called the Hungarian Stradivari. And not without reason. The construction and finish are somewhat reminiscent of its illustrious predecessor, but Joannes has also added new elements to the construction to make the sound sweeter and more personal. I have played this violin a lot, including CD recordings, and it has never let me down. Whoever becomes the new owner, this instrument will give a lot to the player! A valuation certificate is available for those who would like to purchase this violin. The value has been determined by Medea Amsterdam for insurance at 7,000 euros.

Sound description:

Professional

1931

The violin has, to put it in chef's jargon, a "spicy" sound, honest and reliable. Lots of warmth on the G string. Without a doubt an all-round instrument for on stage and beyond. Suitable for any music style. The violin does require a specific type of player who can get out what it has to offer, because of the many sound possibilities that this violin has.

Specifics

Varnish and colour:

Warm brown varnish on an amber background, oil varnish with beautiful craquelure, especially on the top. The violin shows signs of wear and has been opened a few times in the past for repairs under the bridge, among other things. Everything has been professionally repaired and expertly retouched.

Interesting details:

The "ears" of the curl stick out further than on other violins. The F-holes are positioned a little closer to the edge than you normally see. The top of the violin has a considerable curve, especially in the middle. The varnish looks beautiful, a very attractive violin to have in your hands!
