Violin making by Dick de Graaff
When he was younger, Dick always wanted to build his own violin. With this purpose in mind, he followed violin making courses from Dutch professionals Peter Brandt, Bart Straatemeier and Dirk Jacob Hamoen. After which he's also finished a bow making course from Eitan Hoffer.
With their valuable help, he learned how to keep his knives and gouges sharp and he took his violin and bow making skills to a higher level. These days, he has already build an impressive mount of violins that are each jewels in playability and sound. He's also build various bows, cellos, viola and even a whole new instrument, a seven-snared violin.

Because he's also a professional violist, Dick knows like anyone else what kind of sound a musician looks for and he has taught himself how to adjust his newly made violins and viola with that goal in mind. But older instruments also sometimes need adjusting to sound better. Because of this, Dick has made sound adjustments and necessary maintenance with a variety of older violins of different makers. This includers makers as Gagliano, Vuillaume, Guadagnini and of course, his own violins. Dick offers help to professional orchestra musicians that are struggling with the sound of their instrument.

Tuning pianos
Tuning a piano can be a difficult job that needs to be done with utmost precision. With the island Terschelling as his playpark, Dick has succeeded in giving each piano their own sound and personality.
Composing & orchestrating
In the past, Dick has created various compositions for choirs on Terschelling. Composing is something he does with a lot of joy and passion. He's also made various song arrangements for his wife's students and he writes down Youtube hits for guitar by ear, adapted to the student's level.
